Day 4: Pamplona to Lorca

Pamplona was party central last night. Hundreds of revelers in the streets standing or sitting in groups with their drinks. And dancing, where you'll be pleased to learn that I did manage to turn down the invitation to join in
Pamplona has camino plaques set into the footpath every ~5m, so it was easy to navigate out of the city, even though it was still dark when I left my albergue
The morning walk through the countryside was a very pleasant starter...
...for the stoney path climb up to and down from El Alto del Perdón — “The Hill of Forgiveness”. At the top is the Monumento al Peregrino — a series of metal sculptures where each figure represents a different era from medieval to modern-day pilgrims. "Where the path of the wind crosses that of the stars" - all in all quite an experience, up in the cloud with a cold breezy breeze blowing
Today's walk was 37km, which was a little mad, and certainty further than I'd originally planned. 37km was too far in the afternoon heat, so I probably won't repeat that distance any time soon
There was very little wind in the afternoon,  so I did get to use my sun umbrella for the first time, and it made a significant difference. The umbrella got some weird looks, but quite a few "what a brilliant idea" comments from other pilgrims
