Day 5: Lorca to Los Arcos

I really enjoy the early morning walking, with the cool temperatures, hardly anybody about, no traffic noise
Just after visiting an amazing blacksmith...
...I reached the famous wine fountain. Wine is genuinely on tap for pilgrims, along with water. So I had to sample both liquids the traditional way, by using the pilgrim's shell as a cup
I ended up drinking four zumo (or jugo) de naranga (freshly- squeezed orange juices) today. They always hit the spot, although can be twice the cost of beer (cold beer hits the spot too!). Cafe (and orange juice) number 2 was playing the Spanish version of Gloria by Laura Branigan, which is a real blast from the past. A cigar- smoking priest was entertaining a group of young Spanish pilgrims
My legs and feet enjoyed the shorter walk today...
...and I managed to find a good albergue without booking ahead
I met a pilgrim here who was checking the quality of the kitchen facilities. His words to me: "I'm Italian, I'm a chef, so I'm cooking my favourite dinner". Good on him for going all out, but I'm at the ultra-simple end of the scale, or even better just eat out!
The days are very simple: get up, get packed, eat a snack and scull some water, walk, stop at first open café for coffee, orange juice, and (usually) a potato and egg 'pie', repeat walking and cafe-ing until reach albergue, shower, wash clothes if possible, maybe join others for lunch and a drink, lie on bed to recover, go out for dinner, go to bed and sleep. Mix with chatting to other pilgrims while walking, drinking and eating. Repeat formula each day
