Day 7: Logroño to Nájera
I had an early start today; some kind person got up and started packing at 4:45 am, and thought the rest of us would like to join him. I lay awake for long enough to know that I wasn't going back to sleep, so decided to pack up my bed and walk
I had planned to take a short or maybe even a zero day, but the early start in the rain persuaded me to just keep moving (it was quite cold). A bit of manual navigation required in the dark added to the fun, since a pedestrian bridge on The Way was closed
I quite like the stylised camino shell used in this region

Just before my morning coffee and tortilla de patata, I had my gold fix for the day at the Iglesia de Santa María de la Asunción in Navarrete. I'm in three minds about this one: is it gaudy or godly or just goldy?
[Sorry, not sure if that needs to be rotated on your screen. The video looks impressive, but I can't work out how to embed it here]
Obviously amazing design and craftsmanship, although my photos don't do it justice! No further comment from me at this stage
The landscape tells me that we are now well into wine country. Often thriving in very rocky ground!

Some randoms on the way to Nájera...
Having not booked any accommodation, I was fortunate to be first in the queue outside my albergue waiting for it to open at 1:00 pm. Only two of us pilgrims without reservations managed to get in, everyone else was turned away
Hopefully a quiet day tomorrow...

Please say more about the first photo ... was that a lake and you were on a bridge or? Refelection on that smooth surface is cool. When we were in Europe, I always wished I had the time and guidance to understand the meaning and icons in the goldy/gaudy/godly (or because I am a kiwi Goldie) church shrine thingees (sorry ... it's name escapes me at this stage of the morning) ... but alas I didn't. Happy walking/pilgrimming.
ReplyDeleteAfter several unsuccessful attempts at commenting on my own blog, I am hoping this works. Different user name, but hopefully I can still CREATE posts
DeleteThe lake is La Grajera Reservoir, and you come across it while walking through a park. Coming across the 'lake' is quite unexpected, because you walk UP to it, not down. It is pretty!
DeleteIt's not a bridge you can see, just a stone wall beside the path
DeleteGoogle Maps says that you have covered 187 kms so far! That's impressive - nearly a quarter of the walk to Santiago. Coincidentally, I have nearly done 187 steps since I got up 👣
ReplyDeleteMy camino app says I have 580 km to Santiago, so I ambulance more than a quarter of the way
