Day 14: Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz

Well, a 3°C start today, a little warmer than yesterday's 2°C, but not such a significant wind chill. So it was an enjoyable start, looking back seeing the sunrise over the valley
There are cluster after cluster of windmills around here, and I don't think my photos quite convey just how many there are
Initially the path was wide and muddy...
...then after Hontanas it reverted to a kind of farm track, and I wouldn't have thought it was wide enough for a vehicle but apparently it was
I met another couple walking backwards - they had walked to Santiago, and were on their way back home to Bayonne in France, so impressive!

The ruined monastery of Convento de San Anton suddenly loomed large as the path turned around a corner
The Camino (and the road) go right through the arch. In spite of the condition of the ruins, a small albergue operates from here
I was in the rather charming village of Casteljerez before 11am...
...so had time to visit the church...
...have a coffee and chocolate cake, then wander down to the other church (probably more correctly described as an ex-church) - quite a long way down a winding main street. The church had been converted into an information centre, including an audio-visual display on the ceiling, and several booths dedicated to the Camino and its pilgrims. Well done!
I walked (quite a long way!) back to my albergue, which was now open, checked in and dropped off my pack. Because with the village being named Castrojeriz, of course there was a castle at the top of the hill. And if there's a castle on top of the hill, I had to go and explore it!
And enjoy the views!
Curiously, on the way up the hill, there were a whole lot of hobbit houses built into the hill. Most if not all abandoned ☹️
There is a block of houses next to my albergue for sale. I suspect some renovation experience required!
