Day 15: Casteljerez to Población de Campos
I left my albergue early, and started walking in the cool but not freezing morning air - definitely warmer than the last two days. The town of Casteljerez seemed to go on forever, even though it is basically just one main street
The Casteljerez hill gradually receded in the distance, and the climb to the highest point on the meseta started
The lights on top of the windmills were twinkling, a bit like Christmas lights all the way across the horizon
I was lucky enough to be at the top just as the sun rose, and was treated to some spectacular views
Then down the other side, with the path leading off into the distance. Looks like the meseta!!
... not forgetting to look back occasionally...
Endless fields of wheat with windmills in the distance...
The meseta did have some tree cover for a while...
... but the sun started beating down, and I once again took advantage of my sun umbrella
The path to Fromista was alongside a canal, which was quite pretty, but the water wasn't as blue as some of the photos imply
The path crossed the canal at a lock, which had seen better days
Interesting seeing the storks' nests, where humans have built the support structures, but perhaps the storks have constructed the nests themselves??
My accommodation for the night is a treat - a single room, with a bed(!) not a bunk(!)
Aiming for Calzadilla de la Cueza tomorrow, but I haven't yet managed to get a confirmed booking
