Day 21: León to Villadangos del Páramo

Ready to go...
Or are we?
Heading out of León we passed the Convento de San Marcos. This is now a luxury hotel, where maybe we'll stay a while next time we are in León. Or maybe not
But if we did stay there, we'd be able to see all those peregrinos walking past, pausing at the statue, and contemplating the parador or perhaps the meaning of life...
...before crossing the bridge...
...and heading west...
... following the shells insert into the footpath...
... and the crowds of peregrinos, which I had not seen in such numbers since we were in the train from Bayonne
The path today followed the road again for the most part, although this time it was a busy road with the traffic noise making conversation a bit difficult at times
There was a more scenic route available (more away from roads, more interesting, more up and downy, more left and righty, and 3.5km longer) - no thankyou, not today

More storks...
...hobbit holes...
...murals...
...and sun (wahoo!)

Even the modern looking buildings sometimes just show a nice front, but have a ramshackle rest of exterior
I think someone ran out of money partway through construction - maybe suffering through the 2008 financial crisis which hit Spain
Less than 300km to go!
I've enjoyed catching up with M&K again, walking and talking, talking and walking. Back to a longer day with an early start tomorrow

  1. "... more interesting, more up and downy, more left and righty..." is my favourite saying of the day. I would have liked that in my day as I returned to work which was more righty than left, and writey than read-y, more sitty than walky and more thinky than talky. Fab photos ... hotel looks amazing and the traveller and the parador look like they are cogitating with ruminations and muses to satisfy even the most steadfast pilgram.

  2. LOL... after reading Uddstrom's blog it is clear that 'parador' is not Spanish for contemplative brass dude but is Spanish for a building. Oh dear, ditzy strikes again 🙄
