EOTW Day 1: Santiago to Negreira

I managed about 14,000 steps yesterday, in spite of it being a rest day. I'm looking forward to a real rest day some day real soon!

It was time to leave the city and get walking again, via the cathedral of course
And what a change! Hardly any people, narrower paths...
An old watermill complex (factory?) by the river invited exploration (but I didn't indulge)
Yes that is the cathedral in the distance
There was more road walking than I've had recently
The hórreos kept appearing
The villages appear more modern and less run-down than previous
And this little old bridge looks in good enough condition, but I presume is obsolete and not used any more - it doesn't go anywhere!
A new house
And then around the corner is this delightful medieval bridge at Ponte Maceira. It looks like a good spot to cool off, and I gather it's a popular swimming spot for locals and peregrinos
Some colour just up from the bridge
I'm at Negreira for the night, and someone has 'enhanced' the sculpture
One claim to fame for the town is the Pazo do Coton, a 14th-century tower house, currently used as the town hall
And this Monumento o Emigrante (Monument to the Emigrant), a two-sided sculpture, is rather poignant. One side shows a man looking towards the horizon, symbolising those who have left in search of a better life. His child clings to his leg...
... also visible on the other side, representing his left-behind family
